BIOACTIVE DIRT BABY!

BIOACTIVE DIRT BABY!

You’ve probably heard us banging on about bioactive soil mixes, but do you know why we love it so much and why your plant would seriously benefit from it? We’re here to fill you in with the deets on why a bioactive blend is exactly what you and your plants need!

Our bioactive dirt;

All of our soil blends are bioactive. Our base consists of Coco Coir, which has been buffered with mycelium and fresh Worm Casting which contains soil conditioning microfauna and bacteria. This dynamic combination creates a potent bioactive blend, offering a dual benefit. The Worm Castings not only provide essential nutrients, improve soil structure and stimulate microbial activity, but they also introduce a diverse array of beneficial organisms. Meanwhile, the mycelium-buffered coco coir further enhances the blend by introducing beneficial fungi, promoting efficient nutrient cycling, enhancing moisture retention and enriching the soil ecosystem. This holistic approach ensures optimal plant health and facilitates vigorous growth.

What happens in nature?

Creating a bioactive blend is a way to replicate how plants grow in nature because it aims to mimic the natural ecosystem and interactions that occur in the wild. In nature, plants coexist with a variety of organisms, including insects, microorganisms, and other animals. These interactions play a crucial role in the health and growth of plants.

In natural ecosystems, plants benefit from a rich array of organisms that enhance their growth and overall health. Decomposers such as earthworms, springtails, and various soil organisms play a pivotal role by breaking down organic matter, facilitating nutrient recycling, and improving soil structure. This collaborative effort creates a nutrient-rich environment that supports the flourishing of plants. Additionally, in the wild, plants tap into a diverse reservoir of nutrients and minerals originating from decaying organic matter, fallen leaves, animal waste, and the decomposition of deceased organisms. These essential nutrients become accessible to plants through the transformative actions of microorganisms, which break down organic matter and convert it into forms readily absorbable by plants.

By creating a bioactive blend, we can attempt to recreate some of these natural interactions and nutrient cycles that support plant growth in the wild. The blend can introduce beneficial microorganisms, organic matter, and nutrients into the plant's environment, promoting a healthier and more balanced ecosystem within the plant's immediate surroundings.

It's worth noting that while replicating the exact conditions of a plant's natural habitat in a home environment may be challenging, incorporating bioactive blends can still provide benefits by fostering a more symbiotic relationship between plants and their surroundings.

So a bioactive blend helps to replicate the ecosystem your plant would receive in the wild, but what is actually going on inside the dirt that makes it so beneficial to your plant?

What goes on in a bioactive potted ecosystem?

1. Nutrient cycling: Bioactive soil contains beneficial bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms that break down organic matter and convert nutrients into forms that plants can readily absorb. These microorganisms decompose dead plant material and release nutrients, making them available for plant uptake. This nutrient cycling ensures a continuous supply of essential elements, promoting healthy growth and development.

2. Disease suppression: A diverse community of microorganisms in the soil helps suppress plant pathogens and harmful bacteria. Some beneficial bacteria and fungi present in bioactive soil mixtures can protect plants from disease-causing organisms by outcompeting them for resources or producing antimicrobial compounds. This can contribute to healthier plants with a reduced risk of diseases.

3. Improved root health: The presence of beneficial microorganisms in bioactive soil can enhance root health. Certain bacteria and fungi form symbiotic relationships with plant roots, creating mycorrhizal associations or rhizobium nodules. These associations increase the root surface area, facilitating better nutrient and water absorption. They can also enhance plant tolerance to stressors such as drought or high salinity.

4. Enhanced nutrient availability: Bioactive soil promotes the release of nutrients from organic matter and mineral sources in the soil, making them more accessible to plants. Microorganisms break down complex compounds, releasing nitrogen, phosphorus, and other essential elements in forms that plants can absorb. This helps prevent nutrient deficiencies and supports overall plant vitality.

Always remember when creating a healthy potted ecosystem, it also requires appropriate care and maintenance. Factors such as light, water, temperature, and plant selection should be considered to ensure the success and longevity of the ecosystem!

The wonders of bioactive blends are truly something to behold. By embracing these magical concoctions, you grant your plants a slice of the wild and enable them to flourish in a nourishing and vibrant environment. So, jump on board the bioactive bandwagon and witness your plants reaching new heights of beauty and vitality. Let's embark on this incredible journey together and unleash the power of bioactive dirt—because your plants deserve nothing less than the best nature has to offer!
